The 8 D’s of Feng Shui – #5 Direction

Kia Ora and welcome to phase #5 of the 8 D’s of Feng Shui. The 8 D’s are designed for you to start your own Feng Shui project – declutter your house to free up space energetically, emotionally and physically.

For those who are new to the series, I’ll give you a quick overview. For those who are following this series from the start: it won’t take long, I’ll promise. 🙂

We started with #1 Declutter making a list of things we haven’t used for a while or don’t need any longer. In #2 Designate we created an area for where to put all these things and in #3 Decision we sorted these things in what-to-keep and what-to-give-away. This has left us with two piles and in #4 Dedicate we attended to pile no.1, the one we wanted to keep. We gave every item a purpose, task or function and a proper place in our house. So those things are now all stored away and we ticked off TO KEEP. It didn’t take long, did it. 🙂 Right!

Ready to embarque on to phase #5? We are going to focus our attention on to pile no.2, our last pile. This is the one with items we’d like to give away and it’s going to be achieved by giving those things a new direction. According to the Collins Dictionary one definition of the word direction is as follows (I had no idea that there are so many different online dictionaries by the way): ‘A direction is the general line that someone or something is moving or pointing in.’

A quick question before we’re going to send our stuff out into the world. How big is the pile you’ve collected? Do you have heaps of stuff that you would like to declutter? If that’s the case you could consider organising a yard or garage sale. This would help to minimize the pile and one benefit could be that your things are actually taking care of their own direction. Another benefit could be that the money you are getting for your things could go towards something special, your reward for example. 🙂

So now it’s time to look at the items piece by piece – no matter if you are in a group or on your own, you know the technique by now from #2 and #3 – and consider what to do with them.

I have to admit, that my pile grew bigger and bigger over the course of this project and I created piles and directions like Trade Me (this is an online platform similar to Ebay, just the New Zealand version). Eco Shop (a second hand shop where you can get for example furnitures, crockery, cutlery, glasses, and all sorts of other things for little money). The list continued with Great for gifts, Recycling, Op shop, Repair and Rubbish. You can create as much piles as you like.
